Through Her Eyes

Through Her Eyes is an intimate installation featuring self-recorded video diaries by three women in Iran. Their stories offer a direct window into their lives, dreams, and daily challenges. Themes of identity, freedom, and resilience are central. As a Persian woman who left her homeland, this project is also a personal search for connection, between the life I live now and the one I might have lived.

The women in these films document their world from their own perspective, both literally and emotionally. By handing them the camera, the power of narration shifts into their hands, creating an unfiltered and deeply human portrayal of their realities. Their video diaries reveal both the visible and invisible constraints they navigate, as well as the quiet strength woven into their routine; in relationships, work, and moments of self-expression.

This project goes beyond documentation. It reflects a longing for closeness with a culture and a country that feels both familiar and distant. It invites the viewer not only to observe, but to listen to voices that are often unheard, especially in Western media. Through Her Eyes is both personal and political, a space where memory, identity, and solidarity come together.
